The has been a growing concern here because of the movements of the government in the UK. I am going to just reprint what is going on in many blogs. The part where we get to what can you do. I think if they can get most HEor's(Home Educator's) to respond the government will know it will have an up hill battle, so I think publishing this is a good idea. We can always pray. Then, we can also write and email news agencies. I do not agree with calling or email government officials unless they are your own. So here is the situtation:

a) The DfES is in charge of .......
b) They are planning .......
c) There is a man proposing.....
d) To keep home education alive you need to email/write to.......and say..

So, consider these answers a starting point:

a) The Department for Education and Skills is the government department that is responsible for developing strategies in education. They see part of their remit as aiming to achieve excellence for all and their functions will accord with the Every Child Matters agenda.

b) Following last year's DfES consultation on draft local authority Home Education guidelines, (which many HEors felt did not adequately or fairly represent the views of a large portion of the HE community, and even DfES admit was "targetted"), the DfES intend to conduct another consultation on Elective Home Education. They describe the proposed consultation as being "a full one, conducted via the Department's consultation website.".. where they hope to ensure that the documents are accessible to as many people as possible.

c) Put simply, it appears that the DfES is considering using the Every Child Matters Agenda to insist that home educators conform to standards as decided by the state. This will doubtless mean that they would like to impose a system of routine monitoring to assess progress. It would also, in all probability, mean that they would like to intervene in the matter of educational content, either explicitly through the imposition of a curriculum or through the method of punitive monitoring. DfES's complaints with the current system is that whilst schools are subject to close inspection, home educators appear to get away with it and that "whilst s437 of the Education Act 1996 provides a remedy for LAs which have concerns that there may be no suitable provision, this is unwieldy, time consuming and expensive and in some cases will be nugatory where home educators are making good provision but are resistant to LA enquiries."

d) To keep Home Education as we know and love it,

1. Write to Elaine Haste of the Elective Home Education Department (DfES) at info@dfes.gsi.gov.uk and ask to be included on a list of those who receive information about the consultation.

Ssample letter/email to DFES :
"I am a home educating parent. I understand that there is to be a DFES consultation about light touch changes to the "monitoring" of home educated children. Please keep me informed of any further developments with regard to this consultation. Yours sincerely"
info@dfes.gsi.gov.uk
Elaine.HASTE@dfes.gsi.gov.uk
Elaine Haste
Elective Home Education
DfES
Mowden Hall,
Darlington
DL3 9BG.

NB: This does NOT mean that you have taken part in the consultation and the DfES cannot honestly claim that you have. The reason why this last point is important is that HEors who are experienced in the area of government consultations are rightfully cynical about the uses to which these exercises are put. On previous occasions, HEors have found that they may as well have been shouting at the moon, since their views were not adequately or fairly represented in any conclusions or practice, though the DfES nonetheless was able to band it about that they had consulted us. So why bother signing up now if we don't plan to actually take part in the consultation? Signing up is important because the DfES needs to know just how many of us they are going to have to deal with. They need to realise just how many of us will resist changes in a serious way. If the powers that be think that they currently have significant problems with the dealing with HEors under the present legislation, they need to realise just how many more problems they are going to have should they change the situation in the way they appear to intend. This will only happen if the numbers of us who look as if we are going to be resistant to change really stack up.

2. Spread awareness. Send this post (or improved version) anywhere you think helpful. Tell at least 4 other HEors what is going on and get them to sign up, as above. Get them to tell at least 4 others. Put this on Local HE Lists everywhere. Blog the story if you have an HE or any other kind of blog. Use this explanation there if you don't have the time to re-write it fully. Every one of us counts.

3. Spread the positive word about home education (personalised learning, healthy happy children etc) possibly using the recent media stuff about "toxic childhood". This would be the "battle of hearts n minds" stuff.

4. If you are a member of Education Otherwise you might want to communicate your feelings to the EO Government Policy Group (governmentpolicy@education-otherwise.org) about what you would ideally like EO to be doing about all this. You could also speak to your Local Contact. If you are a member of any other home education support organisation (or you know anyone who is) please pass on general information about the forthcoming DFES consultation.

5. If you have any energy left, I would also write to your MP, whose seat will doubtless be a much more marginal than it has been for years. Tell her/him, for example, that you don't want your private family life invaded, that should the situation change and HEors be told what to do, you believe that changes will lead to a challenge in the law that holds that parents should be responsible for the education of their children.

Virtual Talmund

Of Love and Torah is a post I was reading on Beliefnet in arguelment with another post called A Slippery Slope to Idolatry .

I am not buying her arguement for the kissing of the Scroll as that it is all God has left us. Yes, he has given me His Word, but there are many things I do not know. There are times my bible is not with me. God can always speak to me directly. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

The words without form is the Hebrew word tohuw . It is also found in Isa 45:18, translated vain.

Isa 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I [am] the LORD; and [there is] none else.

So if God did not create it that way something must have happenned inbetween verse 1 and 2 to cause the world to be tohuw.

Ok let's cut to the chase. Most people believe in a 7 day creation. I do not believe that and do not believe the Word of God supports that. Genesis 1:1 uses the word create(bara). God does not use the word again till the 4th day where he created(bara) great whale. I know we have all learn on the first day God created, but it does not say that.

Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Now to answer DTK's question.

Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

How can you replenish something that has not been plenished before. I believe everything they find fall in the first heaven and earth. Animals and man that are now are different than what was then. I believe the life that is now, the life that leaves the body when it is dead is different from that what which was before.

Talk Like a Pirate Day

I nows bees called Bloody Lucy Straw and i cans bees found on die Sad Serpent.
Arrrr.

Deutsch Welle article(in english)

DW has an article about homeschoolers in German. After the article there is a space to send them your commensts.

Please, please, please send in a comment. Even if it is just a couple of lines.

Below is the letter I sent in:

I am an American living in Germany. I am married to a German and have three children. I wish they allowed homeschooling here. It would give us so much flexablity. Homeschooling for the government is not about what is best for the child, but about control.
For instance, the eight year old Timo G., 100% handicapped, who has been learning at home for awhile at to the recommendation of his medical specialists. This should come to an end, the responsible leader of the Local Education Authority decided. Timo must be driven daily to a special education school which is 75 miles from home, despite the fact that several medical opinions proved that this travel and the separation from his known environment would disturb the development of the boy massively. As the family does not accept this verdict, the authorities are now threatening to remove custody. The system does not take into consideration a slower child or even a gifted child. A child may excel at Math, but have problems with German. The child fails to keep up with other in one subject, but is bored in another. Homeschooling parents, like other parents, only want what is best for their child.
The system is not fluid enough to deal with changes in a child's life. Like two grandparents dieing within weeks of each other. The child does not have time to grieve, he must perform he is in the fourth class and if he does not he will end up in the lower schools.
Do I want control? Yes, I do, but I share the brunt of the responsiblity for my child. I do not have learn every year my children's strengths and weakness. I do not have to figure out how to challenge 33 children individually. I only have 3.

here I am again

Nothing new really.
I can not get into my homeschooling blog so I decided to post here.
I doubt I will be posting here much though.
I am doing somethings though.
I am trying to lose weight. I was reading a book and am now trying to do a more natural eating kind of thing.

I did pretty good to day. I did overeat a little of the Chinese food, but I did not finish all the rice. So I think I am getting a little better. I need to do some exercise, but I just to lazy.

The house isn't to bad. Got two loads done this week, but that was only because it got so cold here. It is now taking about 2 days for things to dry and I hate the idea of having to go to the laundry room to hang up clothes to dry. But i think I might have to Monday seeing the clothes are starting to pile up.
I need to send in for my absentee ballot, but I am not excited about this years voting.

Blogs of Summer

Looking to help an European homeschooler get some votes.
Vote for Wired Wisdom.

<img style="DISPLAY: block; But the mom had her hands full serving cake and coffee to the adults. And then abendbrot(evening meal) to the adult guest. She packed nice bubbles and tops(along with the candy) into the giftbags. The little ones are out playing with them now.

Well someone said the K word.(kindergarten) And I could see my hubby trying not to say. That's nice. She won't put them into kindergarden. I sorta stayed next to hubby all afternoon. I was not sure what to talk to the others about.

I've just realized that I am very different then them.(Or maybe it is just my thinking.) but what do I have to talk to them about. How can I start a conversation without insulting someone? The German school system that is boxing my oldest son in or how I am not putting the little ones in kindergarden. How do I explain the latter in my broken German. I consider myself a libertarian. Most people here are socialist. Even my form of Christian is different than most.(Not that most people are christians here.) For as bad as it sounded I did enjoy myself and I know the kids did to.

Batized Pagan Spring Holiday

Let me start my asking what do eggs and bunnies have to do with the death and ressurection of the son of God?

I don't do much for this holiday. I don't buy the kids chocolate. Normally I don't buy anything at all, but I saw this very, very large duck for 5€ and could not just pass it up.
I don't have to worry about the kids missing out. Oma(Grandma) and her sister buy more than enough chocolate for all. In fact, after seeing all the chocolate, I was wondering if we new any poor folks to donate it to. The kids also get presents for Easter here too. The got a Bobby car. It is a riding toy. To bad it is still raining so they have to play with it upstairs.

We went out for dinner. Greek. I had a wonderful dish with beef and lamb. No cheese in site. I guess it was kinda kosher. I also had matza for dinner. Trying to stay away from pork is really rough in German.

All in all a great day. Got the playroom clean this evening and trying to get GKS to sleep up here to night. I can not go in the city to buy a needed birthday present and I can't go anywher later bcause he gets home at about 3:00.
I get no real time with him, because in the inbetween time he has to eat and do homework.

Did I tell you his teacher only corrects tests. They correct each others class and homework. I don't think anyone has looked in his workbooks.
You see these are not part of his grades. It is only the tests that go into his grades. Well, how many are there? Well, all tests are written. They do not believe in multiple choice tests. They start in November and they come in groups. he report card he received in Feburary is from a group of test about 12 maybe 15 for each subject.

Ending not so good

Well, the merger between Lucent and Alcatel has begun. They will operate as two seperate companies for the next 6 months to a year.

The day was going pretty well: I got the kids dress and everyone ate breakfast.
The shelving was put together, but one was not correct.
I read two stories to the kids(in English).
I got out a few emails. And found somestuff on Charlotte Mason that I really want to take my time and read. I don't think this program is for me. I like the idea, but I am not the orginized Victorian. Plus, GTH has a problem reading things that do not intrest him.
GTH gave me a few of his tests. The Math is good. A solid 2(B). The German is the problem. He brought home a diktat(dictation) with a 4(D). This is the heart of the problem. Where do we go from here? Well he now has Haupschule(lower school) grades.
He can take a test for Gymnasium(Higher school) or Realschule(middle school). I guess I will have to make an account for myself in English. It is to bad there is not a Parent/Teacher mode so you can see how well your child/children are doing. Hook all the children into one overseer account so you can see with just a few clicks.

The guy from XXXLutz came today. So we now have the shelving and draws for under GTH's desk, but the shelves for the others bedroom is not correct. My long awaited bookshelf that was suppose to go on the wall is not here. So I have to put the books away again. So I can again have no clue what books I have.

I have decided to get educational games for the kids birthday coming up. So yesterday I was getting up to speed. GTH is also up-to-date on his account also.

GTH's teacher decided to take the kids to see some kind of play.(This is after the circus they went to next week.) The thing is that she doesn't send any type of note home. Just tells the kids and then the kids tell their parents. A note would be nice. Tell me where you are going , what play you are going to see, how much and when you want the money, and when you plan on being back. I know others kids are responsible, but mine is not. And what if it is something I do not want my kids to see.
They like to take kids out on field trips alot here in Germany. In fact they get to have my kid more than I do. I can only do so much with him, because he is in school or doing homework or out at some class(ping pong or turnen) or out playing with his friends. I really want my kid back.

Dreams

Monday night my husband told me that his company might be merging with another(a French company) and what hubby does the other company already has a dept for that so we might be moving in a year or two.
I seems that this part is in Italy.
So I preceded to have dream that night that we moved to Italy and that I could homeschool. The teacher decided no school since they were going to the circus.
I found this out Friday. I knew they were going to the circus, but I did not know that it would be in the afternoon. One thing about the states is they ask for your permission for every trip. You get written what it will cost, where they are going, and when.
He they believe that a 9/10 yo should be responsible for informing their parents. In the States, we know that some teenages are not good at this.
So at the last minute I am told that I will not have my child in the afternoon. That I have to bring him along with all my errands instead of changing my schedule(it was to late to change anything Friday). If i would have know a week ago, I could have made other plans. But i can not do it last minute.

But the day went well, I think we all enjoyed ourselves. GTH got to go to the Turnen(gymnaistics) class for the little ones.

GTH and I started the Geography section of "What your 2nd Grader Should Know."
Hopefully we can get some more in tonight and he can go over his "Horse and His Boy" quiz. And to pile coals of fire on someones head.
Hopeful it would warm them up.

Last night was nice.
I got through the grammer part of "What Your Second Grader Should Know" with GTH.
Yes he is behind, but we are moving quickly. He has read the Greed gods and the American Tall Tales. Tonight we are going out to dinner so we will do nothing tonight.
We are up to chapter 4 of the quiz for "A Horse and His Boy".

GTS knows the letter "E" now.
This will help when we are on the elevator.
Here in Europe they have the ground floor(Edre). This is fine if the house is clean. But getting home at 7:30? my kids would be starving by then. I would have to eat out. Not that big a deal, but where would that leave my husband. We got pretzels and meat for the evening. I did gravy for the meatballs and only had to heat up the meatballs by the time GTH got home from school. We prayed before eating. GTH has a split day so he has to go back at 1. After eating i put the kids in for a nap and headed out to Lidl for batterries. Made it back in more than enough time. They should not be asking the ferederal government to subside socialise programs without any over sight to how that money is spent.
If they want true sovernity, let them leave the Union completely. If they wish to preserve, develop, and transmit to future generations of Native Hawaiians their lands, let them buy land then they can do with it what they please. They are afforded the same rights as any other US citizen to practice their religons and pass down their culture. There is no need for a new law to give them these rights. They already have them just like all Americans. But asking the other US citizens to foot the bill for there culture is unamerican.

Please join Senator Kyl, Senator Craig, and Congressman James Sensenbrenner in opposing this bill.

Native Hawiians site

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE NATIVE HAWAIIAN RECOGNITION BILL (AKAKA BILL) ?

and where I started

Jews and the Sabbath and other musings

I was wondering how Jews in Germany opperate.
